Zambia Land Alliance - phase one

Skrevet 21 April 2010

The project's main focus was the capacity building of the Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA) network so that the organisation could acquire the tools and knowledge that would enable them to carry out advocacy and lobby work on land policy issues. The project sought to influence Zambia's legislation on land and land distribution to ensure that future legislation incorporates the views and needs of Zambia's poor and marginalised citizens. Another central objective of the project was to help create land alliances in four provinces and eight districts within Zambia, with the aid of representatives from pre-existing NGOs and CBOs.

Apart from its advisory function, ZLA also undertook the capacity strengthening and empowerment of the local land alliances. Information dissemination of land issues was also an important part of the project, as was supporting ZLAs network in addressing problems in relation to hereditary or traditional land issues, the latter especially in relation to the right of women to own and tend land.

Information on governance, Hiv/Aids, conflict solution, and sustainable land usage was also an integrated part of the work of ZLA.

The project was concluded in 2009.
