Poor ex-mineworkes with no voice
Swaziland National Ex-miners Association (SNEMA) is part of the broader democracy movement in Swaziland. They work to improve the rights of ex-mineworkers and their families who mostly live in the countryside and are amongst the poorest in the country. This group of people has not been given the pensions and health compensation that they are entitled to and they have no say in political process in the country.
The project
Lately SNEMA's activities and member-base have developed and they currently have difficulties handling the organizational challenges this leads to. This project will address this issue by 1) strengthen SNEMA's organizational capacity at the national and local leadership levels in order to improve their services to the members and 2) strengthen the membership base throughout the country so the members get a larger sense of democratic ownership of the organization. This will for instance be done by providing them with skills within alternative income-generating activities as an alternative to their lost pensions and compensations.
