Project: Act now against political violence targeting women in Zimbabwe

Skrevet 12 Juli 2011

Political violence targeting women
Organized violence against politically active women in Zimbabwe who fight for democratic rights in Zimbabwe is a problem on the increase. Both for the victims and in general for women's access to political participation. The problem has not been addressed due to the repressive political environment and a lack of coordination amongst civil society movements.

The project
The project seeks to mobilize politically active women from Africa Contact's partners National Constitutional Assembly, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions and Zimbabwe National Students Union to fight politically motivated violence. Furthermore, the campaign against the violence will be a platform for the further improvement of human rights in Zimbabwe.

The project seeks to strengthen politically active women in their capacity to participate in politics and simultaneously put political violence on the agenda in Zimbabwe, southern Africa, Denmark and the EU. Finally, the project includes counselling to support the victims of political violence.

The project is financed by The Project Advice and Training Centre and runs for 9 months from April 2011 until January 2012
